Ghana Water Limited (GWL) says the allegations made by Sam Nettey George, Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, regarding the importation of a new water treatment product called “One Drop” are false.
This claim was made by Mr. George when he appeared on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on February 1, 2024.
The MP had accused the government of Ghana and GWL of importing the product as a substitute for traditional chlorine.
However, in a statement on February 2, 2024, GWL clarified that the company adheres to established protocols in collaboration with regulatory agencies and stakeholders before endorsing any new water treatment products.
The company emphasized that it currently utilizes chlorine-based disinfectants such as Chlorine Gas, Calcium Hypochlorite granules, and Chlorine Tablets for water treatment.
GWL further says management reserves the right to act on a positive evaluation report by writing to either the Public Procurement Agency (PPA) for sole sourcing or to advertise for competitive tendering processes.
The company has not awarded any contract for the supply of the “One Drop” disinfectant for water treatment.
The company called on all stakeholders, including the MP, to refrain from disseminating rumours against the company.
