An upbeat Black Stars coach Chris Hughton asserts that the team is fully prepared for the final group match against Mozambique, aiming for a high-level performance and victory.
Ghana faces Mozambique in their must-win game to qualify for the next round. The Black Stars suffered a 2-1 loss to Cape Verde and a 2-2 draw with Egypt in their first two games, leaving them in a precarious position of consecutive group-stage exits.
During a pre-game press briefing, Coach Hughton acknowledged that the Black Stars’ past achievements have created a culture of high expectations, which puts pressure on both the head coach and the players to perform bar none and win games. He said, “There is always pressure as a Black Star head coach and player. The players are aware of this and it comes with the job and you have to accept it”.
The 65-year-old has been under intense pressure, following the team’s unconvincing display so far in the tournament. Coach Hughton is however confident that the team would use the criticism from the first two matches as motivation to succeed. He also expects the players to put their disappointment from the previous matches behind them and deliver a par to none performance to secure a win.
Ghana has played two matches against Mozambique with one win and one draw.
Mozambique will qualify for the next round with a win against the Black Stars.
