The Electoral Commission has directed the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) to nominate a new presidential candidate within ten days following the death of its 2024 candidate, Madam Akua Donkor.
This directive aligns with Article 50(4) of the 1992 Constitution, which permits an additional ten-day nomination period if a candidate dies before the election.
In light of the development, the Commission has suspended the near-complete printing of presidential ballot papers to accommodate the replacement.
The GFP is expected to inform the Commission promptly upon nominating a new candidate.
Samuel Tettey, the Deputy Chairman of Operations, confirmed the Commission’s dedication to ensuring a smooth electoral process during this adjustment.
