Finance Minister Urges Customs Division to Meet Revenue Targets for National Development

Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam says the role of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) in revenue collection is critical for national development.

On a visit to the Aflao Sector Command, he stressed that customs officers must be diligent in meeting this year’s revenue target of GH¢146 billion to support Ghana’s developmental needs.

Dr. Adam underscored the importance of mobilizing internal resources to address infrastructure challenges and improve living standards, highlighting the need for roads and electricity provision.
He commended the Aflao Sector for exceeding revenue targets in previous years and urged continued efforts to achieve success in 2024.

The Aflao Sector, comprising major stations such as Akanu, Kpoglu, and Ave-Havi, was praised for its performance, although challenges in revenue collection were acknowledged at the beginning of the year. Dr. Adam stressed on unity among GRA divisions, emphasizing collective responsibility for success.

Commissioner General Madam Julie Essiam echoed the importance of customs in revenue collection and outlined plans to enhance staff welfare and logistics provision.
She spoke about the need to improve GRA’s image and transition towards collaboration with taxpayers.

Brigadier General Ziblim Ayorrogo, Commissioner of Customs Division, spoke about expectations for the Aflao Sector to exceed targets, aligning with the ministry’s revenue objectives.
Assistant Commissioner Joseph Allan, Aflao Sector Commander, also assured a balance between revenue mobilization and national security responsibilities, particularly in an election year.
