Built in 1925, the Manhyia Palace served as the official residence of the Ashanti King until 1974 when it was converted into a museum, preserving centuries of tradition and culture.

The museum’s architecture itself is a testament to Ashanti craftsmanship, adorned with intricate carvings and symbolic motifs that reflect the kingdom’s grandeur.

It also houses the Museum’s exhibits such as royal regalia, photographs, medals, furniture, drums and palanquins which are over two hundred years, a battle dress which dates back to 1900 and many objects of historical significance as well as effigies of all past kings and the current occupant of the Golden Stool.

Upon stepping inside the museum, visitors are transported back in time, greeted by a mesmerizing display of artifacts, regal paraphernalia, and ancestral relics. From ornate royal stools to majestic umbrellas, each item narrates a chapter of Ashanti history, showcasing the opulence and authority of past monarchs.

Visitors could witness traditional ceremonies, performances, and rituals that have been preserved through generations. From rhythmic drumming to captivating storytelling, the museum pulsates with the vibrancy of Ashanti traditions.

Guided tours and interactive exhibits provide visitors with a deeper understanding of Ashanti customs, governance systems, and societal structure, fostering a sense of appreciation for Ghana’s rich heritage.

The Manhyia Palace Museum extends its reach beyond its walls, actively engaging with local communities to promote cultural preservation and heritage awareness. Through outreach programs, workshops, and collaborations with schools, the museum endeavors to instill pride in Ashanti heritage among the youth and ensure its continuity for generations to come.

As Ghana continues to evolve in the modern era, the Manhyia Palace Museum remains steadfast in its mission to safeguard the legacy of the Ashanti Kingdom. With plans for expansion, digitalization, and enhanced visitor experiences, the museum aspires to become a premier destination for cultural enthusiasts, scholars, and tourists from around the world.
