The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has inaugurated a five-member committee to assess the impact of the September 2023 Akosombo Dam spillage, which led to widespread flooding in affected communities.
Chaired by Ing. Kirk Koffi, the committee will examine the circumstances leading to the spillage, evaluate the response efforts, identify affected areas and challenges, and recommend measures for immediate and long-term interventions.
Speaking at the inauguration, Mr. Jinapor underscored the importance of a coordinated response and sustainable flood management strategies to prevent future incidents. He also raised concerns about possible compensation for affected residents and called on key stakeholders to support the committee’s work.
The committee, which includes Mr. Kwame Jantuah, Ing. Kofi Ellis, Ing. Kwaku Akosa, and Ms. Georgette Emefa Fugah as secretary, has one month to submit its report.
