The Electricity Company of Ghana on the 11th of December, 2023, donated 200 motorsbikes to the Ghana Police Service to promote collaboration for national development.
This initiative was to enhance police response time to both crime scenes and emergency situations.
According to Mr. Keli Gadzepo, ECG board chair, “the value we get from the police administration regarding our operations is important and they have been supportive,” he said, highlighting the need to support the GPS.
However, In a post shared on 13th December,2023 on “X”, Franklin Cudjoe stated that, the money used to purchase the motors for the police could have been used to provide more street lights which would have helped in crime prevention.
He said the provision of motor bikes by ECG is very helpful because there have been numerous robbery cases in the country but the police can only work effectively when they have the necessary equipment thus the need for more motorbikes to promote peace and security in the country.
Also, in reference to ECGs indebtedness at the Bank of Ghana, it was suggested that though this initiative is a good one, the money could have been used to pay off the electricity company’s debts.
Due to the economic hardship in the country, some citizens say the ECG could have invested the money into the health sector or help to fix some roads.
