The Electoral Commission (EC) has affirmed its preparedness to conduct the special voting exercise slated for Monday, December 2, 2024.
At a meeting with the National Election Security Taskforce in Accra, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa disclosed that the voter register has been finalized and distributed nationwide. She also indicated that the distribution of ballot papers for both presidential and parliamentary elections is near completion.
The Security Taskforce, led by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, includes representatives from the Police Service, Immigration Service, Ghana Armed Forces, Prisons Service, and Fire Service. The meeting aimed to assess the EC’s readiness for the elections and ensure adequate security arrangements to guarantee a peaceful process.
Ms. Mensa noted that ballot papers, except those for the Northern, Bono, and Bono East Regions, have already been distributed to police armories across the country. She expressed confidence in the security measures, stating that the EC is poised to deliver a free, fair, and peaceful election on December 7.
IGP Dr. Dampare commended the EC for its efforts, describing Ghana’s current calm atmosphere as a positive indicator of a peaceful election period.
The general public has been assured of a secure voting process, allowing all eligible voters to cast their ballots without fear or intimidation.
