Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa has called on political parties to accept the results of the 2024 general election. Speaking in Accra on Wednesday during the presentation of the Democracy Cup to the EC by Parliament’s leadership, she was emphatic that the Commission remained committed to conducting a transparent and fair national exercise.
The EC chair likened its role to that of referees in a football match, stating, “We are committed to ensuring that our activities, from now through the election day, are transparent, open, fair, and involve collaboration with key stakeholders, including political parties and the citizenry.”
She reiterated the EC’s dedication to transparency in all electoral processes and urged political leaders to respect the outcomes, acknowledging that there will be both winners and losers. “We commit to ensuring transparency in all aspects of our work… We also want to entreat and call upon the contestants to accept the outcomes of the election,” she said.
Additionally, Ebenezer Djietror, Deputy Clerk of Parliament in Charge of Corporate and Financial Management Services, highlighted the importance of peace and security during the 2024 election.
