The Electoral Commission (EC) has urged political stakeholders and the public to exercise patience, emphasizing that only 24 hours have passed since the December 7 polls closed.
At a press briefing on Sunday, December 8, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa reassured Ghanaians that the official presidential and parliamentary election results would be announced after thorough verification.
Ms. Mensa noted that the commission is working within its mandated 72-hour timeline to ensure the integrity of the results.
Her statement followed calls from National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah for the EC to expedite the declaration of results, particularly after New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia conceded defeat.
“The verification process is elaborate, involving political parties and their agents at all levels. We ask for patience and assure the public of transparency and accuracy,” Ms. Mensa stated.
She further disclosed that the EC has so far received results only from the Ahafo Region and is diligently processing results from other regions.
Ms. Mensa added, “If results are ready before the 72-hour mark, we will announce them promptly.”
The EC reiterated its commitment to upholding Ghana’s democratic principles, calling on citizens to remain calm as the process unfolds.
