Voter turnout at the Sakumono Electoral Area has been low in Tuesday’s District Level Elections.
The Electoral officers sat idle for several hours waiting for voters to come and exercise their civic duty.
At the Holychild JHS polling station, the Presiding Officer who is also the Returning Officer for the Sakumono Electoral Area said that the voter participation today was very low and was not sure whether there will be a large number coming in to vote later in the day.
He mentions that at the Holychild JHS as of 1:00 pm only 10 people had voted out of a total number of 264 on the register.
Speaking to Wisdom Quame Makarios Dogbe an Assembly member hopeful of the Sakumono Electoral Area, he urged the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) to conduct more educational campaigns on the Importance of the District Level Election.
He mentions that having gone around all polling stations within the electoral area, people did not even know that there was an election to be held today across the country.
The Assembly Member hopeful commended the Ghana Police Service for ensuring peace and order at the various centers and appealed for peace post-elections.
Brian Sekyi-Appiah a polling agent appealed to voters to make sure that they visit the right polling stations where they vote, in order not to waste time with the process at another polling station, where their names are not captured on the voters roll.
