CISA Calls for Better Journalist Remuneration to Safeguard National Security
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Mr. Rasheed Inusah, Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for Intelligence and Security Analysis (CISA), has pointed at the urgent need for improved remuneration for journalists in Ghana, citing it as crucial for safeguarding national security.

Speaking at a seminar in Accra themed “The Media and Security in an Election Year,” Mr. Inusah says journalists have a crucial role in maintaining peace and stability by disseminating accurate information.
However, he warned that poorly paid journalists were vulnerable to external influence and manipulation.

According to Mr. Inusah, journalists surviving on inadequate salaries become susceptible to exploitation by various entities, including corrupt politicians, business people, and criminals.
This susceptibility poses a significant threat to national security, as compromised journalists may suppress or distort vital information.

He was concerned over journalists excessively aligning with political parties, cautioning that such biases could lead to the fabrication of false stories, undermining the credibility of the media and endangering the peace.

To address these challenges, Mr. Inusah urged media organizations to prioritize the welfare of their staff for professionalism and independence.
He emphasized the importance of journalists discharging their duties with integrity, particularly in the lead-up to the 2024 elections, to uphold peace and stability.

CISA, a non-governmental organization focused on security and intelligence, is committed to addressing security challenges in the West African Sub-region through systematic research and analysis.
