The Births and Deaths Registry has introduced a Standardised Operating Procedure in the registration of Births and Deaths in the country. The Instruction Manual will ensure that all registration is accurate, seamless and secure. The Ag. Registrar of Births and Deaths Madam Henrietta Lamptey, said the new procedure will improve the issuing of births and Death certificates countrywide. She was speaking at a training session on the manual, for District Registrars in Greater Accra.

The Births and Deaths Manual ”Standard Operating Procedures” document outlines a number new procedures in Ghana’s births and deaths registration system. The new document will ensure that civil registration is accurate, seamless and secure. It also ensures that births and deaths are recorded promptly through a reliable system that meets international standards. It places strong emphasis on data quality, privacy and security, addressing the evolving technological landscape and the need for robust data protection measures.

The Instruction Manual is to serve as standard operating procedures for services rendered by the Registry including registration of births and deaths, alterations, searches, sharing of information, reporting to the Government Statistician, amongst others. The first phase of the session is the training of District Registrars in Greater Accra. They are being taken through the requirements of the manual. Mr. Emmanuel Nyarko Tetteh is a representative of UNICEF. He believes the new manual will enhance the operations of the Registry.

The Births and Deaths Registry had support from the United Nations Children Fund to develop the Instruction Manual.
