Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has reaffirmed his commitment to positioning the church and other faith-based organizations as key partners in Ghana’s development.
During a meeting with Most Rev. Mathew Kwesi Gyamfi, the Catholic Bishop of Sunyani Diocese and President of the Catholic Bishops Conference, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the essential role of religious institutions in nation-building.
Dr. Bawumia highlighted the significant contributions of the church, particularly in areas like education and healthcare, acknowledging that religious organizations have established numerous schools and hospitals across the country.
He expressed his intention to ensure faith-based organizations receive similar benefits as international development partners, including tax incentives on materials used for social projects.
He also addressed the pressing issue of illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, assuring the Bishop that environmental protection would be a priority if his government is elected.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government and religious institutions in tackling national challenges and promoting development.
The Catholic Bishop, in response, appreciated the Vice President’s visit, underscoring the church’s commitment to supporting national progress and community welfare initiatives.
