Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has accused President John Mahama’s administration of unfair dismissals and actions that threaten Ghana’s democracy, calling for an immediate reversal of what he describes as politically motivated decisions.
In a statement, Dr. Bawumia said he had refrained from commenting on governance matters to allow the new administration time to settle. However, he noted that recent dismissals of public servants and reports of security-related incidents compelled him to speak.
He criticized what he described as targeted job terminations of employees hired during the previous administration, including public sector directors, security personnel, nurses, and teachers. According to him, such actions contradict the governing party’s campaign promises of job creation.
Dr. Bawumia also raised concerns about growing insecurity, pointing to alleged attacks on journalists, military raids on former government officials’ residences, and mob actions against individuals and institutions. He likened the situation to a military takeover rather than a democratic transition.
Calling for urgent intervention, he urged President Mahama to end what he views as a political crackdown and uphold democratic principles to protect national stability.
