The renowned waakye vendor Auntie Muni has passed on.
The 72 year old Auntie Muni fell ill and finally passed on January 3, 2023.
Her son confirmed the news in an interview on Asaase Radio.
“Mummy fell ill, expressing pain, leading us to seek medical attention at the SSNIT Hospital. However, complications arose, prompting her to request her discharge, two days post-discharge, her health did not improve. Hence, we urgently transported her to the University of Ghana Medical Centre, where she succumbed at 3 o’clock this morning,” said Auntie Muni’s son Arafat.
Auntie Muni’s waakye, which was loved by everyone, attracted people from all walks of life, including the highest office in the country. Even former President Mahama could not resist her special Sunday dish.
Some years ago, Auntie Muni was contracted to cook for the national team, the Black Stars.
She passed away at a time when the cookery spirit of Ghana was flourishing, as a Ghanaian chef named Faila had aspirations to set a new Guinness World Record for a cook-a-thon.
