Attorney-General Dr. Dominic Ayine has acknowledged growing pressure from the public to prosecute officials of the previous administration but insists he will not rush cases without sufficient evidence.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Monday, March 24, Dr. Ayine emphasized that while accountability was a key campaign promise of the government, he remains committed to ensuring thorough investigations before taking legal action.
“The issue of accountability was a major pillar of His Excellency’s campaign, and Ghanaians bought into it. That is why they voted for us-to ensure those who abused public office are held accountable,” he stated. “Yes, I am under pressure, but not from political circles. It is ordinary Ghanaians who want to see results.”
He acknowledged concerns over the pace of prosecutions but maintained that legal processes must be followed meticulously.
“I have said that I will not rush any case. The president understands this and supports the approach,” Dr. Ayine added.
He also cautioned banks against facilitating transactions involving frozen assets linked to ongoing investigations, warning that financial institutions failing to comply would be held accountable.
