At the climax of the Kuntunkuni festival, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Sagrenti War, the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II delivered a resolute message, on the resilience of the Ashanti Kingdom against any form of threat, whether from governmental entities, political factions, or other ethnic groups within Ghana.
Held in Manhyia on Thursday, February 8, 2024, Otumfuo’s call at the durbar was for national unity, underscoring the need to foster peace for collective progress.
Reflecting on the Ashanti Kingdom’s evolution into an integral component of Ghana under the 1992 constitution, Otumfuo addressed concerns regarding perceived hostility towards the Ashanti people, urging an end to divisive agendas and a commitment to coexistence within the nation’s legal framework.
Drawing parallels to the historic resilience demonstrated during the Sagrenti War of 1874, Otumfuo invoked the symbolism of the Golden Stool as a testament to the Kingdom’s enduring strength, emphasizing its inviolability despite past adversities.
He cautioned against any attempts to undermine Asanteman, emphasizing the futility of such endeavors and advocating for governance rooted in love rather than transient power.
Otumfuo further highlighted the inclusive nature of Ashanti society, citing the peaceful cohabitation with Zongo communities, Ewes, Anlos, and Fantes, while lamenting the reciprocation of their goodwill with animosity.
