Vice President Dr. Mahamudu  Bawumia says by introducing digitalization and the Ghana Card, the country is now dealing decisively with corruption and its related activities. He cites examples of the elimination of ghost workers from public institutions such as National Service Secretariat and SSNIT, and saving the country millions of cedis.

Dr Bawumia was performing the official launch of the document, ‘Leading Justice’ initiatives by Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, at AICC on Monday morning. He said the effort by the Chief Justice, to make digitalization a key component of the strategic vision for her tenure as the head of the Judiciary, will help the judiciary make major strides in a short period of time.

Expanding on some successes chalked up under the digitalization process and the Ghana Card, Vice President Bawumia said the country has now eliminated ghost workers at the Comptroller and Accountant General’s office by relying on the Ghana card, which has saved institutions such as  SSNIT over 480 million Ghana cedis by eliminating 29,000 ghost pensioners; also, the National Service Scheme has done away with 44,000 workers, saving over 356 million Ghana cedis. For the vice president, this is the beginning of stamping out corruption.

At a ceremony to officially launch the Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo’s vision for her term of office, Dr. Bawumia, was full of praise for the Chief Justice whose focus is on completely reforming the Judiciary, through the use of digitization and other means.

The Vice President encouraged all key players in the justice delivery value chain,  to rally support for the Chief Justice’s vision to enable her deliver on her goals and target for national development.
