Benjamin Antiedu a Ghanaian legal practitioner, has reacted to the revocation of Mr Nerquaye-Tetteh’s licence as a lawyer by the General Legal Council saying that the withdrawal of Mr. Nerquaye-Tetteh’s license was permanent.

In an interview with RGGNEWS Mr. Antiedu clarified that if there was any possibility for Mr. Nerquaye-Tetteh to regain his license in the future, the GLC would have opted for a “suspension” rather than “withdrawal.”

This reaction came after Samuel Nerquaye-Tetteh, a State Attorney at the Office of the Attorney-General, faced severe consequences when the General Legal Council (GLC) withdrew his license due to professional misconduct.

According to the GLC statement dated January 31, 2024, Mr. Nerquaye-Tetteh directed the transfer of GH¢400,000 from Mr. Woyome to his wife’s bank account while representing the state in a lawsuit filed by Mr Woyome. This unethical behaviour, the GLC says, violated professional conduct standards and undermined the integrity of the legal profession.

The GLC, Ghana’s regulatory body for the legal profession, found Mr. Nerquaye-Tetteh guilty under Rule 2(2) of the Legal Profession (Professional Conduct and Etiquette) Rules, 1969 (L.I. 613) and immediately withdrew his license barring him from practicing law and providing legal counsel to the public.
