There remains uneasy calm in the Offinso North Constituency in the Ashanti Region following the outcome of last month’s NPP’s Parliamentary Primaries. On the eve of the election, on 26th January, 2024, there was a clash between supporters of the two main contenders Dr. Fred Kyei-Asamoah and Mr. Collins Augustine Ntim, the incumbent MP.
There was another clash between supporters of the two at a funeral of the incumbent MP’s son at Nkenkensu over the weekend.
Even though there were no casualties, some supporters of Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, the parliamentary candidate elect for Offinso North and the current MP for the area Mr. Collins Augustine Ntim sustained some injuries during the clash.
The NPP’s 1st Vice Chairman for Offinso North, Dr. William Kwabena Anantwi, was worried over the situation.
The DCE for Offinso North, Mr. Albert Sefa Boampong, appealed to both factions to remain calm.
The NPP’s former 2nd Vice Chairman for Offinso North, Mr. Baba Abubakar, who is also a member of Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah’s campaign team, was equally worried about happenings.
An NPP base popularly known in Akomadan as NPP Parliament was destroyed by NPP supporters during the clash.
A fence wall of a house close to the base was equally destroyed. The police and the traditional authority have assured the residents of adequate measures to sustain the peace in the area.
