Assin South Member of Parliament, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has publicly thanked former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for visiting his residence after what he described as a politically motivated attempt to arrest him.
Rev. Ntim Fordjour took to social media to express his gratitude, describing Dr. Bawumia’s visit as a timely and powerful show of solidarity, a raid on his home by security operatives.
“Thank you very much HE Dr Mahamudu Bawumia @MBawumia for the visit to my residence this evening following the politically-motivated lawless act of harassment in the attempt of the NDC government to gag MPs from exercising their legitimate oversight,” he posted.
The attempted arrest follows Rev. Fordjour’s recent claims that two aircraft suspected to be carrying cocaine landed in Ghana under suspicious circumstances—an allegation that has triggered intense political debate and public concern.
Armed, plain-clothed security officers stormed the MP’s residence allegedly without a warrant, seeking to arrest him. However, several Minority MPs rushed to the scene and successfully blocked the operation, demanding respect for parliamentary privilege and due process.
Rev. Fordjour also praised his colleagues for their swift intervention, stating that their presence helped prevent what could have become an unlawful detention.
The incident has further intensified calls for transparency and accountability, with many viewing the move as a targeted attempt to silence MPs who raise uncomfortable questions.
