President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in the newly constituted Ghana Armed Forces Council, tasking its members with ensuring the military’s efficiency, discipline, and adherence to democratic principles.
The council, chaired by Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, will provide policy direction and administrative oversight for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF). Other members include Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, Daniel Addo, Fuseini Iddrisu, and Nancy Dakwa Ampofo.
In his remarks, President Mahama urged the council to use its collective expertise to uphold national security and stability.
Vice President Opoku-Agyemang, assured the President of the council’s commitment to its advisory mandate. She emphasized the need for vigilance in tackling threats such as illegal mining, terrorism, and transnational crimes.
She also highlighted the military’s role in supporting the government’s 24-hour economy policy, commended the dedication of retired service personnel, and reaffirmed the council’s resolve to strengthen the Armed Forces as a pillar of national stability.
