The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has called on political parties and independent candidates to temper their expectations and prepare for all possible outcomes in the 2024 elections.
Addressing a police briefing with representatives from various political parties on November 21, the IGP stressed the importance of maintaining peace and stability during what is expected to be a highly competitive electoral process.
Dr. Dampare underscored the inevitability of winners and losers in any election and encouraged all participants to manage their expectations to ensure national unity. He reiterated the police service’s commitment to neutrality and professionalism, assuring the public that officers are prepared to respond to any incidents of violence swiftly and decisively.
He urged political actors to cooperate with law enforcement, respect the rule of law, and focus on fostering a peaceful electoral environment. The IGP emphasized that the collective priority should be the safety and security of all citizens, regardless of the election’s outcome.
The briefing formed part of the Ghana Police Service’s broader preparations to ensure a secure and orderly election period, with heightened measures to mitigate potential conflicts.
