Dr. Frederick Agyarko Oduro has expressed his disappointment in the various gender groups for not speaking up for the passage of the affirmative action bill.

Following its first introduction in Parliament in 2011, the bill has faced stronger opposition from some members of Parliament. The Affirmative Action Bill, which seeks to promote gender equality in Ghana, has for more than a decade been in Parliament but is yet to come to fruition.

In an interview with RGG NEWS, he underscored the need for the passage of the bill saying it will help put women at par and work for the development of the country.
Adding that “this Parliament will also fail to pass the affirmative action bill like the other four parliaments in succession did”.

Over the years, Ghana has been rassling with low representation of women. The bill when passed would be a step in the right direction, as it seeks to address the historical social, cultural, economic, and political gender imbalance in the country and serve as a tool for justice for women in the country.

“Real men are those who do not fear women”. The governance expert believes the long delay of the affirmative action bill becoming law is a deliberate attempt by men not to have it passed.
