Government is transforming the public transport system with the launch of what is known as TAP and Go. On Monday in Accra, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, outdoored the new system which is starting with the Metro Mass Transit Intercity services. Dr. Bawumia said, this system  will soon be in use in all public transport including Trotro. He said before piloting the TAP and GO into the operations of Metro Mass Transit, the company was losing about 50-percent of its revenue, but this system is the game changer.
TAP n’ GO is an initiative designed to harmonise the informal transport sector through implementing proven and well-structured technology solutions.  It is the government’s plan to reorganise the public transport system in the country. TAP and GO is expected to build a single structure for the entire transport ecosystem for all the various transport operators to enhance efficiency and stabilise transport fares in Ghana. What makes the new system unique from what was launched in 2016 exclusively for the Ayalolo Bus System is that, it supports taxi hailing, intercity bus services like Metro Mass, Aayalolo, STC, VIP and will soon link up with GPRTU and Trotro services. The public can download the application from the Appstore and Playstore. This new system will address some issues customers face such as ticketing, accurate fares, change, reduce usage of cash, under reporting of sales by drivers, and inconvenience in receiving fake currency.  The Managing Director of the Metro Mass Transit Mr. Albert Adu Boahen, said TAP and Go is a fundamental shift in the operations of Metro Mass Transit.  For Transport Minister  Mr. Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, the new buses fitted  with the TAP and Go system will ensure efficiency and smooth operations of the Metro Mass Transit.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is optimistic the TAP and GO System will generate the needed income for Metro Mass Transit and strengthen its balance sheet.
He also believes this will be convenient to passengers and vehicle owners. The new system will eliminate expenses made on printing tickets and also save travellers the hustle of having to pre-book Intercity travels.
