The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, joined key stakeholders from the Ghanaian music industry for the official launch of Ghana Music Xperience (GMX), a new music streaming platform aimed at connecting Ghanaian artists with audiences both locally and internationally.

In an engaging ceremony, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the immense talent and dedication of Ghanaian musicians, who have brought joy and inspiration to many through their unique sound. However, he acknowledged the challenges faced by these artists, particularly in receiving fair compensation for their work. “Over the years, our talented and hardworking musicians have given us joy, comfort, and hope through their infectious music. However, they are not adequately rewarded,” he stated, pointing out that many artists receive little from foreign streaming services.

The launch of GMX is positioned as a vital step towards ensuring that Ghanaian musicians are recognized and compensated for their contributions. “Ensuring adequate rewards and preservation of legacies requires platforms where our artists and all those who contribute to this vibrant industry can receive their due recognition and rightful place on the global stage,” Dr. Bawumia emphasized.

He expressed confidence in the platform’s potential impact, particularly in a landscape crowded with numerous streaming services. GMX aims to fill the gap by focusing exclusively on Ghanaian music, offering a dedicated space for local artists to thrive.

“The vast fan base of every Ghanaian musician is Ghanaian,” the Vice President noted, stressing that piracy and inadequate promotion from foreign platforms have hindered artists from earning fair income from their home audience.

With a call to action, Dr. Bawumia encouraged all Ghanaians to support GMX, assuring them that with collective effort, the music industry can expect a transformative shift in how artists are compensated and recognized. “I am very confident that with the support of all of us, through the patronage of GMX, the game will now change for our musicians and the industry,” he concluded.
