The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has called for greater involvement of Organised Labour in managing the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), and being emphatic about minimal interference from the government and political appointees.
UTAG’s demand follows the termination of SSNIT’s controversial decision to sell 60% of its shares in four hotels, a move that had sparked plans for a nationwide strike by several labour unions.
UTAG argues that the current SSNIT board and top management have shown poor judgment and governance, weakening public trust.
Consequently, UTAG is urging the immediate dissolution of the SSNIT board and the resignation of its top management, advocating for new leadership that can restore confidence in the management of pension funds.
UTAG remains united with Organized Labour in protecting the interests of workers and pensioners, calling for transparency, accountability, and integrity in the management of SSNIT.
