The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has announced a major change in the United Kingdom’s visa and immigration policies. Beginning January 1, 2025, the UK government will fully transition to Electronic Visas (E-Visas), phasing out all physical visa documentation, including Biometric Residence Permits (BRP) and Biometric Residence Cards (BRC).
According to a statement from the British High Commission, individuals planning to reside in the UK for more than six months will be required to apply for E-Visas, which will replace all current forms of physical documentation.
Holders of valid BRPs are advised to note that all existing cards will expire on December 31, 2024, making them invalid for re-entry after that date.
The Ministry is advising travelers leaving the UK, especially during the Christmas season, to secure their E-Visas beforehand to prevent complications upon their return.
