The Technical University Senior Administrators Association of Ghana (TUSAAG) has announced a nationwide strike action, effective 27th September 2024, in protest of the government’s failure to meet its obligations under the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and implement revised allowances for senior members of public universities.

In a press release signed by the National President, Kojo Ennin Oppan, and the General Secretary, Ms. Elizabeth Nda Amiherere, TUSAAG expressed frustration with the government’s inaction. The statement cited a lack of response to agreements reached in July 2024, following a May 2024 directive from the Ministry of Finance.

TUSAAG also accused the government of discrimination regarding the payment of common allowances, favouring other unions in public universities. They stated, “The government has engaged in systemic discrimination against TUSAAG regarding the payment of common allowances, favouring other unions of the same class of workers in public universities.”

The association demands the immediate payment of agreed-upon rates for vehicle maintenance, off-campus allowances, fuel, utility, and sanitation/security allowances, as well as a formal acknowledgment of grievances and a commitment to uphold the terms of the CBA.

TUSAAG has made it clear that no further negotiations will be entertained. “We reiterate that TUSAAG has exhausted any inclination for further discussion, and demands full implementation of all provisions in the CBA,” the release added.
