Donald Trump has selected Florida congressman Michael Waltz as the next National Security Advisor, two sources familiar with the matter told CBS News, the BBC’s US news partner
Waltz is a long-time Trump supporter who last week won re-election for what would have been his third term in Congress. It comes as Trump continues to make more key appointments ahead of his return to the White House in January.
Loyalists of the president-elect, including Lee Zeldin, one of his staunchest impeachment defenders, and Tom Homan, who served in his last administration, have been tapped for top roles in climate and immigration.
Marco Rubio may be offered the role of secretary of state in the second Trump administration, two sources have told CBS, the BBC’s US news partner.
However, while several US media outlets are reporting the Republican senator from Florida is in talks with the Trump transition team over the senior position, CBS reports that the nomination has not been finalised.
President-elect Trump may still change his mind about the top diplomatic position.
Rubio serves as the vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee and sits on the Foreign Relations Committee.
