Three people have died, and more than 40 others have been injured following a rock-blasting incident on the Buduburam stretch of the Accra-Winneba highway. The blast, carried out by a construction company, caused extensive damage after vehicles were halted for the work to take place.
Residents in the area say this is not the first time such an incident has happened, with previous blasts often damaging nearby homes. After the tragedy, some angry residents attacked workers at the site.
The injured were rushed to St. Gregory Hospital in Buduburam, where the hospital administrator confirmed that 42 people were treated. Four have been referred to other hospitals.
