The Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan, highlighted Africa’s important role in advancing international criminal justice during his lecture at the GIMPA Law School in Accra, Ghana.
Delivering the 3rd annual lecture on international criminal justice, Mr. Khan emphasized that African countries were among the first to join the ICC and continue to be active members in upholding the court’s mandate.
Mr. Khan noted, “Our commitment is to engage with African communities more closely. My visit to Ghana this week is a manifestation of this.” His visit underscores the ICC’s efforts to strengthen ties with African states and communities as the continent remains a key player in international justice.
Mr. Khan’s remarks at GIMPA come at a time when Africa’s engagement with the ICC has been both praised and challenged, but the Prosecutor affirmed the importance of the continent’s leadership in the fight against impunity and upholding the rule of law.
