The Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service has seized cartons of unregistered and fake products being sold at Okaishie, in Accra. This area is a hub for the distribution of pharmaceutical products. In a swoop conducted by the officers, on Thursday morning, the culprits were also arrested to assist in further investigations.
For months the case was being investigated and the culprits were found to have been dealing in the distribution and retail of the fake brand of bell’s olive oil at a rather cheaper price. The influx of the product had generated concern since it posed a health risk and economic fraud. The said olive oil is used for cooking, health and cosmetic as well as religious purposes. There have also been concerns about the nutritional components and storage.
The Executive Secretary of the Pharmaceutical Importers, Exporters and Wholesalers’ Association of Ghana Mr. Joe Yamoah said the case was brought to their attention, and they alerted the police.
Meanwhile the culprits are assisting the police to get to the bottom of the matter. When the investigation concludes, the items would be confiscated.
