The Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) has declared a national strike starting on Monday, September 16, 2024, due to the government’s failure to address their demands for improved working conditions.
In a statement signed by National Chairman George Ansong, the association expressed frustration with the government’s inability to honor previous agreements.
The key issues include the non-implementation of new rates for vehicle maintenance and related allowances, as well as the government’s failure to release Tier Two pension deductions to fund managers since January 2024.
The SSA-UoG also raised concerns about the lack of recalculated interest on Tier Two pension funds from 2010 to 2016.
The association has directed all member institutions to fully comply with the strike action, emphasizing that this decision follows prolonged government inaction. The strike is expected to have a significant impact on university operations nationwide.
