A panel discussion on the Youth Democracy Forum at the Daniel Mckorley Moot Court, featuring Professor Alidu Seidu, Head of the Political Science Department at the University of Ghana, Madam Kathleen Addy, Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), and Dr. Emmanuel Akwetey, Executive Director of the Institute for Democratic Governance, . highlighted key insights on citizen empowerment and civic responsibility.
During the discussion, the NCCE Chairperson stressed the importance of collective thriving and emphasized that Ghana’s strength lies in her people. She advised against allowing money, ethnicity, or religion to influence voting, citing their impact on political behavior and governance.
Prof Alidu Seidu emphasized the role of citizens in claiming and utilizing the state-provided enabling environment for participation, urging action if rights are violated.
Dr. Emmanuel Akwetey called on the youth to focus their voices on public policies, critically analyze party manifestos, and adopt a future-oriented perspective, as their generation holds the key to solving emerging challenges. All the experts encouraged active citizenship, accountability, and youth-driven solutions for a better Ghana in 2024.
