Samuel Nerquaye-Tetteh, a State Attorney at the Office of the Attorney-General, has been disbarred by the General Legal Council (GLC) for professional misconduct involving the receipt of GH¢400,000 from businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome in 2011.

The GLC, Ghana’s regulatory body for the legal profession, found Mr. Nerquaye-Tetteh guilty under Rule 2(2) of the Legal Profession (Professional Conduct and Etiquette) Rules, 1969 (L.I. 613), resulting in a permanent prohibition from practicing law in the country.

According to a notice dated January 31, 2024, issued by the GLC, Mr. Nerquaye-Tetteh directed the transfer of GH¢400,000 from Mr. Woyome to his wife’s bank account while representing the state in a lawsuit filed by Woyome.

The GLC noted that Mr. Nerquaye-Tetteh failed to provide a justifiable explanation for this transfer, which has raised concerns about the integrity of the legal profession.

The GLC emphasized that Mr. Nerquaye-Tetteh’s actions have tarnished the dignity and reputation of the legal profession. Consequently, he is no longer authorized to practice law or offer legal services to the public.
