FC Samartex and Nsoatreman Football Club, Ghana’s representatives in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup respectively, both saw their continental campaigns come to an end over the weekend.
In the CAF Champions League, FC Samartex were eliminated after a 2-0 loss to Morocco’s Raja Casablanca, resulting in a 4-2 aggregate defeat. Following a 2-2 draw in the first leg in Accra, the Timber Boys struggled to find their footing in Casablanca. Marouane Zila opened the scoring just before half-time, giving Raja the advantage. Despite a spirited performance by Nurudeen Amadu’s side, they couldn’t find an equaliser, and Naoufel Zerhouni’s late goal sealed Samartex’s exit from the competition.
Meanwhile, in the CAF Confederation Cup, Nsoatreman Football Club’s debut campaign ended after a 1-0 defeat to Algeria’s CS Constantine in the second leg, completing a 3-0 aggregate loss. Constantine’s forward Zakaria Benchaa was the hero once again, scoring the only goal of the second leg in the 20th minute after having netted both goals in the first leg in Accra. His three goals across the two legs secured Constantine’s progress and dashed Nsoatreman’s hopes of advancing further in the competition.
Both clubs will now refocus on their domestic campaigns following their early exits from continental football.
