The Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has criticized comments made by the NDC’s Edudzi Tamakloe on TV3 Newday, where Tamakloe referred to President Akufo-Addo as a “packaged human rights advocate.”

He took to Twitter to express his views on the matter, emphasizing the president’s advocacy record and the government’s commitment to addressing ongoing concerns.

He suggested that Tamakloe’s comment was a result of “partisan exuberance” and did not accurately reflect President Akufo-Addo’s track record on human rights advocacy.

Mr. Ahiagbah argued that the president’s advocacy efforts were evident in the substantial support he received from the Ghanaian electorate in previous elections.

The Communications Director pointed out that Akufo-Addo’s advocacy played a pivotal role in his electoral successes, including the 2008 first-round lead, the contested verdict in 2012, and his overwhelming victory in the 2016 presidential election.

Addressing recent events, Mr. Ahiagbah acknowledged the “regrettable challenge suffered by the Democracy Hub demonstrators” but stressed that these events should not define President Akufo-Addo’s record.

He expressed personal condemnation of the incidents and expected the Ghana Police Service to learn from them.

He pointed to the 4.2% rebound of the economy in the mid-term, the efforts under the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) Phase II to achieve domestic food security and stimulate the export sector, and the historic increase in the producer price of cocoa as examples of the government’s proactive approach.

He assured Ghanaians that the government was actively working to resolve the concerns of the public and urged citizens to support these efforts.

Mr. Ahiagbah concluded his remarks by highlighting the government’s past economic achievements, emphasizing that it had successfully turned around the economy when it assumed office in 2017.

He expressed confidence that with continued support from the public, the government could achieve similar economic growth and stability once more.
