Former France international, Raphael Varane has joined newly promoted Serie A club Como, where he will work alongside former Premier League player Cesc Fabregas, who has taken over as manager.
Varane, 31, was a free agent when his contract with Manchester United expired this summer. He has signed a two-year contract with Como, marking his transition to Italy’s top flight.
Varane left Real Madrid, where he won three La Liga crowns and four Champions League trophies, to join Manchester United in 2021.
Varane, who retired from international football last year after 93 caps for France, is looking forward to working with Fabregas, a former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder who was just named Como’s head coach.
Como, returning to Serie A after 21-years of sabbatical, will rely on Varane’s experience to secure their top-flight place. Varane’s stint at Manchester United was hampered by injury, but he hopes to make a great comeback with Como.
Como’s campaign begins with a challenging fixture against Juventus on August 19.
