Dr. Koryoe Anim-Wright, Registrar of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) says politics of insults and unedifying conversations is not encouraging more to women to participate in politics.

She said name calling is a put off for women in that space because women want to engage in clean politics.

“I think women are ladies and sometimes the men just get dirty – and we do not need that. I mean you have people who are interested in being on a panel or speaking about something but the way sometimes the screaming, yelling and unnecessary conversations go around things, it would not encourage the women to participate in politics”, she said.

In an interview on RGG’s Insight, Dr. Koryoe Anim-Wright stated that the current way of doing politics in Ghana does not appreciate efforts that are from the heart.

“They need you to lie, they need you to cheat and do all sorts of things to succeed and not everybody is willing to do that”, she said.

She appealed to politicians to be polite in their regular political activities in order to attract women to participate in politics.

“It should be polite – It should be decent. It cannot be hunky-dory, but the insults are unnecessary and some of the conversations are not edifying – you do not learn anything new from such unnecessary discussions “, she said.

She also appealed to all to encourage a more respectful approach to politics which will bring everyone together to push the Ghana agenda forward.
