The Ghana Police Service has issued guidelines for the nationwide demonstration scheduled for Tuesday, 17th September 2024. The protest is being organized by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to oppose the Electoral Commission (EC).
The NDC is calling for an independent forensic audit of the voters’ register, citing discrepancies in the provisional list displayed by the Electoral Commission ahead of the 2024 general elections.
These directives were announced during a press conference in Accra on Monday, September 16th. The police emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and adhering to the law throughout the demonstration. Protesters are expected to strictly follow the approved routes and timelines provided by the police to ensure a smooth and orderly procession. Additionally, the Police Service highlighted the need for cooperation between the organizers and security personnel to ensure public safety.
Demonstrators were also urged to refrain from engaging in violent acts or causing property damage. The police warned that any destruction of public or private property could result in fines, and security personnel will be stationed along all demonstration routes to maintain order.
