Dr. Rasheed Draman, the Executive Director of the African Centre for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA), has described the apparent impasse between Ghana’s parliament and the Presidency as a tit-for-tat affair.

He says this is due to the failure of both the Speaker of Parliament and the President to recognize the changing political landscape in the country, especially within parliament.

“We are in a kind of political landscape where both the Speaker and President are not from the same political stock therefore hindering cordial relationship among the two”, he stated.

In an interview with RGG News, Dr. Rasheed Draman said the impasse is unfortunate, but it is in the spirit of rule of law.

He added that the two leaders must engage each other to find common ground on matters bordering on national development and cohesion.

“It is unfortunate this has become a tit-for-tat affair but that is democracy and the spirit of rule of law. However, the two of them must have a hard conversation on some of these issues.

The Council of State must also step in and lead the conversation among these two so they can find common ground on this issue. That is why they are our Council of Elders”, he stated.
