Richard Ahiagbah, Director of Communications of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on the government to adopt a proactive approach in addressing emerging concerns over drug trafficking and money laundering activities in the country.
In a post on X, Mr. Ahiagbah criticized the Mahama administration for being reactive rather than proactive in tackling critical security issues. He emphasized the need for preventive measures to curb the resurgence of such illicit activities, referencing Ghana’s past reputation as the “Cocaine Coast,” a label attributed by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
Mr. Ahiagbah also commended the NPP Minority Caucus, particularly Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, for bringing these matters to public attention. He cautioned Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister for Government Communications, against downplaying the seriousness of the allegations and urged the government to focus on ensuring that Ghana does not become a transshipment hub for narcotics.
