The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has expressed concern over the state of free speech in Ghana following the police invitation of media personality Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah.
In a social media post, Ahiagbah stressed the need to uphold democratic freedoms, stating, “This is a democracy. Citizens’ rights to free speech must not be curtailed. The guy shouting across the Atlantic Ocean was tolerated for 8 years.”
His remarks come amid public backlash over Afrifa Mensah’s invitation by security operatives on Wednesday, March 19, under unclear circumstances. Opposition figures, including NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua and Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, have condemned the incident, describing it as an attempt to stifle dissent.
