NPP primaries: Incumbents fall, newcomers rise in heated contests

Voting has ended in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Primaries with some shocking results.
Incumbent MP for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo has been defeated, garnering 328 votes to Mike Ocquaye Jnr’s 1,194 votes.

Tano North MP Freda Prempeh also lost to Gideon Boako, the spokesperson for the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who secured 444 votes to Prempeh’s 221 votes. However, incumbent MPs Kobina Tahir (K.T.) Hammond of Adansi Asokwa constituency and Francis Asenso-Boakye of Bantama constituency have retained their candidatures.

KT Hammond received 311 votes while Samuel Darkwa Binfo came second with 125 votes. Asenso-Boakye won with 650 votes, while Raphael Agyepong had 181 votes in a heated election.
Ursula Owusu-Ekufful, the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West constituency, also retained her seat with 817 votes, defeating Roni Kwesi Nicol who had 241 votes.

In the Nsawam Adoagyiri Constituency, Majority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh emerged victorious with 734 votes, surpassing Hayford Siaw’s 228 votes.

Also, Henry Quartey, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, has retained the Ayawaso Central candidacy with 594 valid votes deafeating his opponent Moses Abor, former Greater Accra Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party.
