The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of orchestrating a calculated parliamentary standoff as part of its strategy to secure victory in the 2024 elections.
According to the NPP, the alleged plan is detailed in a document titled “Winning the 2024 Elections and Beyond: A Comprehensive NDC Strategy.” The ruling party claims the NDC is using its near-majority in Parliament to obstruct government business, in what the NPP describes as a deliberate effort to derail the legislative agenda.
At a press conference on Wednesday, October 23, NPP’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, alleged that the NDC has been working closely with Speaker Alban Bagbin to create gridlock in Parliament since 2021. Ahiagbah argued that these actions are part of a broader campaign to frustrate the government’s operations ahead of the 2024 elections.
“This is not an isolated event but a well-coordinated effort by the NDC to disrupt government business. Since 2021, they have been executing a strategy to position themselves as the majority, and they are doing so in collaboration with the Speaker,” Ahiagbah claimed.
The NPP cautioned that these alleged tactics could destabilize national governance and hamper key development projects, urging Ghanaians to be mindful of the NDC’s approach.
