The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has assured Ghanaians that the country has sufficient Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) supply, dispelling fears of a potential shortage.
In a press statement issued on 10th October 2024, the NPA addressed recent reports suggesting a possible LPG supply crisis. The Authority clarified that while there were temporary disruptions in the supply to the Western and parts of the Central Region due to a power issue at the Ghana National Gas Processing Plant in Atuabo, corrective measures have been implemented.
The NPA reported that LPG Marketing Companies (LPGMCs) have been directed to source LPG from Tema to maintain supply at retail outlets in the affected regions.
Additionally, the NPA announced plans for the delivery of over 20,000 metric tonnes of LPG scheduled between 21st and 27th October 2024, further strengthening the supply chain.
The Authority noted that some LPGMCs have been boycotting the Quantum LPG Terminal and the Tema Multi-Product Terminal, which has put pressure on other depots in Tema and limited the volume of LPG that can be loaded daily.
The NPA emphasized its commitment to maintaining a steady LPG supply and is working closely with all stakeholders to ensure that distribution to the Western Region is prioritized to address the current challenges.
