The National Insurance Commission (NIC) will host the first-ever Africa Sustainable Insurance Summit from April 2 to 4 in Accra, bringing together industry leaders to discuss sustainable insurance practices across the continent.
The event, to be held in partnership with the Secretariat of the Nairobi Declaration on Sustainable Insurance (NDSI), will take place at the Mövenpick Hotel under the theme “Building a New Sustainability Culture for Africa’s Insurance Markets.”
Under the leadership of recently appointed Insurance Commissioner Dr. Abiba Zakariah, the NIC has taken a proactive role in shaping the future of sustainable insurance in Africa. A former Managing Director of Ghana Reinsurance Company and Deputy Managing Director of WAICA Re, Dr. Zakariah brings extensive experience in the international insurance sector, positioning Ghana as a key player in pan-African insurance discussions.
The summit will feature keynote addresses, expert panel discussions, and breakout sessions on topics such as Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, sustainable investments, and underwriting for agricultural and renewable energy risks. Ghana’s Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, will deliver the keynote address.
The event is expected to attract over 200 participants from across Africa and beyond, reinforcing the NIC’s role in advancing sustainable insurance practices on the continent.
