The National Democratic Congress Flagbearer Mr. John Mahama, has assured Ghanaians that his party will not cause any act of violence in this year’s election, given their commitment to a peaceful process. He says the violence that occurred in the 2020 presidential and parliamentary polls that led to the death of some citizens is regrettable and should not happen again in December. He said, the NDC, being optimistic of victory in the polls, will not initiate any situation to mar the outcome of the election and therefore urged the traditional authorities in the country to encourage all other stakeholders to also commit to peace before, during and after the polls. Mr. Mahama was addressing the chiefs of the Adansi traditional area at a durbar held in his honour at Fomena.
The Fomena durbar in the Adansi North district was part of the NDC Flagbearer’s ‘Building the Ghana We Want’ campaign tour to the Ashanti Region. The Adansi durbar was the first of various activities for day two of his official campaign tour to the region, having led a sensitization walk on day one. The Fomena durbar was attended by traditional leaders from various communities constituting the Adansi traditional area of Asanteman. Mr. Mahama urged the Adansihene in particular to help get all stakeholders in the election to commit to a peaceful process since his party will not do anything to mar its anticipated victory.
Touching on the state of AngloGold Ashanti during his tenure as Ghana’s President, and specifically the Obuasi Mine, which is located in the Adansi traditional area, Mr. Mahama, refuted rumours that his government neglected the major gold mine, saying, the efforts his government put into revamping operations of the Mine only became fruitful when the current government took-over.
